I grew up next to a city park that felt a lot like a wild forest. You could walk into it, start running, and not see a house or a road for miles and miles. When I walked into the Holland Park in London, not even a mile from the Kensington Palace, it was as if I suddenly got transported in time and space to the quiet and remote forest of my childhood. Unexpected and yet so welcome and wonderful in the middle of the global metropolis. A great place to walk and discover the unexpected.

My new favorite from my new favorite neighborhood. You won't find such a coffee shop in Manhattan (guaranteed), which is why you must go to Greenpoint! Old-school-garage-kind-of-a-café with vintage furniture, Parisian-like iron street lights, brick walls, wood beams and even a fireplace. You can’t miss it, you'll like it from the first second and feel like you must stay here, at least for a cup of freshly roasted tasty coffee. Which I did, and found Goodness.

Nice cozy interior makes you feel as if you haven’t left home. You always know when people love what they do, and it is obvious here. I met the owner, and I can tell – she definitely loves her "job."

You want to describe it as an independent avant-garde cinema theater. And here are the reasons why. I've never seen an interior like there in cinema theaters: a collection of chaotically set up weird vintage furniture and graffiti on one of the walls. You can eat and drink while watching movies (which is not rare, but is definitely a substantial plus). The most important reason to visit the theater is a wide range of good movies selection. I would say that this place is worth checking out.

I was Goodness hunting in the area (and already totally fueled by great coffee and food) when I passed by this café on St. Laurent. I noticed in the corner of my eye the adorable setting in the window. I sensed something special. This café is a historic place. It is a refuge for local artists, musicians, performers and lovers of all the above. It is also vegetarian with home made food, cooked with fresh local ingredients. My hunch was right, it is a total Goodness.

We, New Yorkers, know it's exactly in hoods like this where Goodness is often found. Unfortunately, we were too late for lunch (served until about 3PM), but Falco was nonetheless worth the Uber trip. It impressed us with its calm multi-dimensional personality and cool coffee drinks made using fancy Japanese contraptions. We'll be back!

The museum of many spaces is what I like to call it. In addition to the permanent collection, so many interesting exhibits from the great show of Pompeii (not all for kids) to goldfinches playing guitars. I was wow'ed. Not many people, so I'd say it's a place were you can enjoy great art, and also relax and be comfortable, while learning something. Much cooler than the 4th grade, I'd tell you. Whoever you are, reading this, I hope you go to this wonderful museum.

San Francisco landmark, an amazing magical place to visit... My friend, a huge reader, loves to stop by at City Lights on his way home (he lives in the North Beach, not far from the store). He loves this place for its spirit, history and amazing selection of books (paper ones). That's the place where beatniks used to hang out in 50s, and where Allen Ginzburg read his iconic poem "Howl" out loud for the first time. Book lovers must visit City Light at least once.

This museum is totally amazing... in every way! It’s like a chest full of treasures, or just one big treasure itself. ISGM fuses together past and future, old and contemporary, architecture and art. In addition to showing off its permanent and current collections, the Museum collaborates with the neighboring community and hosts classical and jazz concerts, one of many reasons why locals love it. Another reason is the atrium, which is spectacular! Go visit!

Goodness is about attention to detail, and it is rarely found in chain restaurants... this particular bakery & cafe is an exception that proves the rule. It was recommended to me by a local (always a good start), so I had to try it. And I am so glad that I did. I loved everything about it - the food, the drinks (hot white chocolate), the ambiance, the decor, the crowd. Just the way Goodness should be, cloned and cloned again.

Don’t miss this old-fashioned store when in the North End. Even if you’re not a coffee person, step in anyway. The store is full of delicacies from everywhere... well, mostly from Italy. Variety of coffees, teas, spices and nuts. Bobby, the owner, speaks all the languages of his customers. I heard English, Italian and even Russian. Don’t be shy, chat with him, you’ll be treated as a local and family, and that's the whole idea. A family-run store serving the neighborhood for almost a 100 years.

Beware! This tiny stylish boutique hotel (only 12 rooms) will make you want to stay there and spend your entire visit without leaving its walls, so cozy is it. Each Room is spacious and fully equipped (probably even more than you need for a short stay), so basically, it turns into an apartment. An elegant, a-la Parisienne, apartment. The apartment I would call home… for at least a couple of weeks.

Art is a very personal thing. But even if you are not an art lover (how come?!), you should find the museum irresistible! The building is huge and is itself an example of modern architecture. Save half the day, minimum, to cover all exhibits, especially if it’s raining outside. It would be the best way to hide. Anyway, I doubt you’ll find a more impressive contemporary scene of modern Turkish artists!

This very special museum is also known as Papa’s Place. I like it so much because you can almost feel the presence of this great writer and man. Like he had just left 5 min ago, especially in his studio. So cozy! We feel this vivid ambience due to the enormous number of cats hanging around all over the house, sleeping on his bed and just playing, not paying any attention to the people watching them. And it is simply one of the most gorgeous houses in the whole town.

With all due respect, if you havent tried them, you havent lived! Literally, it is one of those "before I die, I want" things. These little guys are for all occasions whether you off to a party (kids or grown ups, doesnt matter) or just making a quick stop for utter indulgence, you cant go wrong. But beware, once you had one, a lifelong addiction is guaranteed!

The one on Pokrovka is home sweet home for me, my favorite Coffeemania. I can't tell you how many breakfasts or lunches I had there (or how much money I spent!!!) Always homey, warm, fresh, its lovely intelligent staff and perfect location make me want to come back, again and again. And, the little sister outpost at the SVO airport, can't imagine missing a cappuccino there, always my first and my last in Moscow.

I was once experimenting with a raw food diet, and a friend brought me here. Good choice, even if for a somewhat "acquired taste". To my taste, the great variety of fresh juices and flavorful entrées and desserts offered here made it a quintessentially raw Goodness.

It finally happened! For over a year, I've been on a lookout for that perfect place to have a haircut in the City. Today my search is officially over - I found my hairstyling Goodness, Salon Shizen. Koshi, its owner, is a magician, whose magic is so gentle and trust-instilling that, for the first time ever, I fell asleep while getting my hair cut only to wake up with a stunning look. And that says is all.

Once upon a time, on Christmas Eve, my beloved and I found ourselves in Georgetown. All day, we walked around this picture-perfect town straight out of a fairy tale (or Exorcist), but eventually became cold and hungry. Luckily and just in time, we came across this family style Italian. Filomena herself greeted us at the door, without even interrupting her cooking magic, and as we walked in, we knew there and then that everything was going to be just right. And so it was.

You try this place once, and you can simply forget about coffee shop Goodness hunting in Boulder. You don't want to go anywhere, but here. I did 3 times in as many days. And its not just because of a perfect blend of an espresso bar, a deli, and a wine and home market. It's mainly the vibe. People who work here and people who come to visit, together, give this place a wonderful soul. And that's what I call Goodness.

It is a paradox that, while these places are so hard to find, once you found one, you know almost the moment you walk inside - yup, this is Goodness. And often, right after, another thought follows - why is this place so far?! Thats what happened to me in Pizzeria Locale (Boulder). Why are you so far, hah?

If you ask me where to go for dinner in Boulder, I would say Riffs. Ordinary on the outside, extraordinary on the inside. Total expectations exceeder, despite modest new American look. Best brussels sprouts ever would have done it alone, but the rest was superb too. Not to mention warm and professional staff. Pure mile (and a bit) high Goodness.

There are cat lovers and dog lovers. There are tea lovers and coffee lovers. These distinct groups typically don't intermix. But then why have I lately been tinkering with an idea of... an exotic shorthair? And how, I, an obsessed and committed coffee-drinker, could find myself at Ku Cha Tea House? And love it!? Hundreds of tastefully placed tea cups and pots. Young Dali lookalike with mustache helping me mix my own magic tea. There I was, a delighted coffee person, at the Goodness house of tea.

You realize, the moment you walk in, that it was built on the foundation of love. The place radiates light, and sitting at the gigantic table in the middle, with a great meal in front of you and the smiling beautiful faces all around, you simply know... you found it. This place in DUMBO has had several lives in a few years that I've been coming here. Even a few nationalities: American, Mexican, Italian. Doesn't matter, I am a regular. Whether it is a $10 panini combo, a gourmet dinner with an old movie projected onto a brick wall, or simply a 30 minutes of peace, I've always found exactly what I needed here. AlMar, in the heart of the busiest neighborhood in Brooklyn, somehow became a source of tranquility and Goodness for me, just like the sea coming onto a busy shore.

A tiny Provence outpost in the hipster-land of Williamsburg, this French restaurant is a charmer! The interior is a mosaic of post cards, vases, antique bottles, dried flowers, posters and other tchotchkes, collected and brought here with love (and a bit of nostalgia) from the far away land of lavender fields. A gorgeous Argentinian friend of mine brought me to this place one night. We entered the dark hall and were quickly separated, as she joined the mysterious vortex, and I stayed on shore and observed. Over and over, imminent lovers, brought together by this screeching yet beautiful sound, united momentarily in the most intimate of acts and then separated, without an emotion, as total strangers. And, as waves of agonizing music rolled over me, I leaned against the wall, mesmerized, and fell in love with the graceful bearers of the dance of same.

Please do prove me wrong, but in my experience remains an overpriced gastronomical Goodness lightweight, relative to the rest of the City. And that makes this crowd favorite on E73rd even more special. Not that Goodness could be anything less than absolute, and Bottega's uptown sister certainly earns its place in the Goodness ranks with a great choice of Italian food, superb wine list and, OK, I admit, pretty handsome and, of course, expensive-looking folk.

Life-simplifying Goodness of a sandwich / coffee shop - minimalist design, cozy space, short menu with just what you want on it, great latte and a cute guy smiling at me from behind the counter - more of anything would be too much, so this place is just right. I tried their (self-proclaimed) famous avocado toast, and it was exactly the kind I would have wanted on a lazy Sunday morning at home.
